WELCOME
I’m so glad you are taking this step toward better health. You will feel better after getting acupuncture. It affects everyone differently, but you will feel a shift. It can be as simple as noticing what a clear, beautiful day it is outside, but you hadn’t noticed! Five Element Acupuncture is a reliable way to restore or create a calm, energized approach to life. I had a patient going through work difficulty say to me about a dreaded meeting, “Jan, I felt cool as a cucumber.” Another person told me that she sometimes felt, "tied up around the axle” and that acupuncture helped relieve that inner tension. I find I get the best results when we have a phone conversation before you come in so that we are on the same page. I try to be as honest and direct about expected results as I can be. I do want you to know that I do Five Element Acupuncture which I consider very powerful. I had the privilege of studying with two very special people J.R. Worsley and Hillary Skellon. JR used to say we don’t do the healing nature does. A humble approach in my view.
Meet the Acupuncturist

Jan Ruscio, L.Ac
When i first started hanging out at Yoga studios I noticed a sign that said, "Health is Wealth" and I remember thinking that seems right.
Long story short I found myself in Boulder at one of the beginning classes at Institute of Taoists Education and Acupuncture (ITEA)
I graduated in 2002 and finished my clinical in 2003. Here it is 22 years later. I’ve stayed the course, done many continuing education classes at ITEA. I’ve helped many people with many different issues. I especially like helping young women who are overworked and stressed out.
Benefits of Five Element Acupuncture

It can help with

Pain Management
Acupuncture can help with managing pain or at times eliminating it completely,
Emotional well being
Acupuncture can restore a feeling of calm, but energized. Surprisingly it can restore your sense of humor.
Digestive Health
Gas, bloating and constipation can be reduced and managed with acupuncture treatments.

Immune Support
The Chinese never talked about immune support, but they did talk about “acquired chi” which we would recognize as lifestyle.
Acupuncture can contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Women's Health
I have a soft spot in my heart for women. I see many women being overworked by the demands of their lives. Young kids, older parents, a demanding job. They get bunched up. I like to help them feel stronger in themselves, more capable of setting boundaries and having more energy to do it all.

The Five Elements

Wood
There is a saying that exemplifies this element, “he can’t see the forest for the trees”. Our vision can get cut off. Having meaningful purpose is very important to creating a good life. Acupuncture can help with achieving clarity. Staying flexible in our body/mind and spirit versus a rigidity to our point of view is beneficial to a more balanced life.

Fire
The quality of our relationships can be a reflection of the fire element. We want to feel the warmth of our relationships without getting burnt up or pacing ourselves in work without going to burn out. Circulation and appropriate body temperature can be affected by this element being off. A saying we have that relates to this element is, ”He wears his heart on his sleeve."

Earth
The earth element is related to the stomach and spleen and the process of digesting. This can include digesting information. Do we have discernment around what we take in? Think of all the qualities of earth there are from quicksand to dry parched earth. All of the qualities of digestion can be effected. Do you experience gas, bloating, abdominal pain? Acute stress can show up as IBS.

Metal
This element is related to the lungs and the large intestine. If you’ve ever suffered from constipation you know the feeling of toxicity that you can’t take anymore in. If this element is off you may not be able to sort and separate what is good for you versus what you should get rid of. Some people have a hard time getting rid of anything!!!

Water
The storage and transportation of water is an important function of the water element. It’s related to the bladder and the kidneys. Water can be healing and is used in many religious ceremonies, or it can totally overwhelm us as in a tsunami. Fear is the emotion related to water and fear can paralyze us or flood us with anxiety. If you have ever experienced a panic attack you know the feeling of not knowing which way to turn. It is a truly horrible feeling. I had a patient who thought he was having a heart attack, but it turned out he was having an acute panic attack. A combination of anxiety medication and acupuncture helped him tremendously. A saying we have that reflects the water element is, “ I can feel it in my bones.”
